Grace is a gift. In Ephesians 2:8 - "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faithand this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" (NIV) Even the gifts that we have and use for the purpose of God are given to us by grace. Romans 12:6 - "We have different gifts, according to the grace given us. If a man's gift is prophesying, let him use it in proportion to his faith." (NIV) In Romans 11, Paul gives the example of Elijah who is talking to God about the people killing the prophets and wanting to kill him as well. Elijah is thinking that there will be no one left to serve the Lord. And what does God say? "I have reserved for myself seven thousand who have not bowed the knee to Baal." (Romans 11:4 NIV). And verse 5 says that even in Paul's current day that there is a remnant that is chosen by grace. Romans 11: 6 - "And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace." (NIV)
